with Rene Cutforth
Cries of ' not since the 30s ' echo through the land as politicians and economists gloomily define Britain's situation in 1974. Meanwhile, the fashions, decor, films and music enjoy a revival of passionate nostalgia.
So what were the 30s really like? This programme doesn'attempt an objective answer. RENÉ cutFORTH looks back to give a highly personal recollection of the age of the Auden group and Shirley Temple, Art Deco and Ginger Rogers , the Depression and the excursion train, the rise of Adolf Hitler and of the Movies, the Spanish Civil War and the International Surrealist Exhibition.
