'We've nothing against Tom, Dick and Harry, as long as they don't come here...'
Here is the island of Sylt where the beautiful and rich of West German society gather. It's the holiday setting for anyone who can pay £20 for a bottle of champagne and can enter a club with a pretty girl on his arm. Wealth and beauty make the happy people of Sylt.

In the village of Oberreutte, in Bavaria, it's just the daily routine that makes people happy. There are barely a thousand of them-they are farmers and traditional craftsmen, whose way of life has not yet been disrupted by the 20th century.

Two leading West German television reporters look at two aspects of life in their country in election year.

Stretching for more than 2,000 miles along the eastern seaboard of the United States is one of the world's largest marshlands, renowned for its wild life. Yet looking at its flat unending landscape, it is easy to understand why many people regard it as a wasteland fit only for development and industry.

Recently, however, scientists at two marine institutes in Georgia and Virginia have been demonstrating that the marshes are a far more valuable food source than even the best agricultural land, and essential not only for the survival of the wild-life but of the whole multi-million dollar offshore fishing industry.

Tonight's Horizon follows the work of these scientists and looks at their difficulties with developers who act first and ask questions later.
