Introduced by Olivier Todd.
A series of programmes in French on the politics and problems of the Fifth Republic.
Since the beginning of the Fifth Republic, vital decisions for France seem sometimes to have been taken by one man, General de Gaulle, the President -occasionally even against the inclinations of the elected parliamentary party and government who support him. Do the French care about this? Would they be content to be ruled by one man, or are they concerned about democratic government? This programme asks, 'Is parliamentary democracy a reality in France today?'
