A series of films exploring the many worlds of this country of contrasts.

The Japanese methods of fishing vary from the use of a cormorant with a noose round its neck to modern deep-sea trawlers. At some seasons, schools of a thousand dolphins are driven into harbours by village fishermen. So dependent are the Japanese on their fish for food that they still perform elaborate rituals in honour of the Sea God.

This week's meeting of the Trades Union Congress has focused attention on the relationship between the T.U.C. and the unions. Where does power really lie? How far does the old relationship need revising? Is the present structure adequate to safeguard the rights of individual trade unionists as well as dealing with the industrial and political problems of the day?
These are some of the questions raised in tonight's programme, which is introduced by John Freeman, Editor of the New Statesman.
Those taking part include:
George Woodcock, General Secretary of the T.U.C.
B. C. Roberts, Reader in Industrial Relations, London School of Economics
