The story of Coronation
Day, June 2, 1953, from the archives of the BBC, together with eye-witness accounts of those who took part in the celebrations.
From the overnight wait of the thousands in the Mall and Hyde Park , through the procession in the rain, the memorable images of Churchill and Montgomery, and the announcement of the conquest of Everest.
The day goes by with the flypast in the afternoon, the floodlights and fireworks, the street parties, and finally the speeches of the Prime Minister and the new Queen.

The 40th anniversary of the Coronation of Her
Majesty Queen Elizabeth
II is celebrated in a concert broadcast live from the Westminster Central Hall in London.
The programme includes music originally played in Westminster Abbey on June 2, 1953, as well as music representing the four countries of the United Kingdom.
Handel's Coronation anthem Zadok the Priest, Parry's / Was Glad, Grace Williams's Fantasia on Welsh Nursery Tunes, Walton's Coronation march Orb and Sceptre and Vaughan Williams 's arrangement of the Old 100th.
Featuring the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Royal Choral Society, the Fanfare Trumpeters of Royal Marines, and Roderick Elms (organ). Conductor
