Gene KrupaJulian Joseph and Geoffrey Smith explore recordings by the American drummerwho rose to prominence in the 1930s as a member of Benny Goodman 's groups and became a major star, as well as a key influence on many drummers to follow. Selections include his work with Goodman, his big-band hits with vocalist Anita O'Day and trumpeter Roy Eldridge , and a live trio recording from the Jazz at the Philharmonic series with pianist Hank Jones and alto saxophonist Willie Smith.
