Stravinsky's Symphonyof Psalms was the composer's highly original response to a Koussevitsky commission for a symphony. He produced a work for chorus and orchestra with both elements on an equal footing. Jonathan Swain assesses how conductors on record have interpreted this unusual design. They include Markevitch,
