Translation it is that openeth the window, to let in the light; that breaketh the shell, that we may eat the kernel, that putteth aside the curtain that we may look into the most holy place.
The translators of the King James Bible had faith in the power of their words to illuminate, but supporters of the modern versions of the Bible claim that time has pulled the curtain back again.
James Fenton talks to those who want a clear window onto scripture and those who want stained glass.

by KAROL WOJTYLA (POPE JOHN PAUL II), translated by BOLESLAW TABORSKI with Maureen O'Brien Barbara Jefford Nigel Hawthorne
Written in the late 1950s. this play is described as ' a meditation on the Sacrament of Matrimony, passing on occasion into a drama '. Three stories of the love of three couples are interrelated. In the case of the first couple, love triumphs over death. In the second couple, love somehow dies. The two children (the boy who never knew his father, the girl whose parents are two strangers) suffer from their inner wounds, but their love helps them to rise above their fears and create their own life together.
With PATRICK BARR , DIANA BISHOP, BRIAN CARROLL , JOHN CHURCH, LOLLY COCKERELL, ALEXANDER JOHN , MICHAEL MCSTAY and AMANDA MURRAY Directed by JOHN THEOCHARIS followed by an interlude
