A feature about
August Strindberg (1849-1912) by MICHAEL MEYER with Alan Badel as Strindberg and Stan Phillips as Frida Uhl 'After 60 years of torture, I beg that I may be permitted to depart this life. The little joy I found in it was illusory or false. My work was the only thing worthwhile, but that was largely wasted, or useless, or harmful. Wives, children, home. were all a mockery.'
Directed by JOHN THEOCHARIS
This sharp, detached evocation of Strindberg's elaborately obsessive torments. was well served by Alan Bade and Sidn Phillips. (NEW STATESMAN) followed by an interlude
