Radio 1's newest dj has been around the airwaves for some time. Many of you will recognise his distinctive voice from regular Newsbeat bulletins. He's been a member of that team since 1969 where researching, interviewing and writing about rock has given him a sound basis of musical knowledge for his new show. He started off on hospital radio, and then had a stint with BBC Radio Solent where he ' did the technical bit and some presenting'.
' I'm really pleased,' says Richard, ' to be given the chance of making my own mark as a DJ, and I'm hoping to present some exciting rock music for the early evening audience.'
