direct from the Stock Exchange At last it's 'Big Bang' day.
Outwardly the City of London will look the same. But inside the Stock Exchange and in the dealing rooms of recently formed financial conglomerates, a new set of free market rules will take effect, ending the system of fixed commissions which for decades have protected the cosy world of stockbrokers and jobbers.
What will it mean for London as a financial centre? Will markets become more volatile? Will investors - from the major institutions down to the man in the street - really get a better deal? These are some of the questions presenter Vincent Duggleby and reporters from the BBC's Financial Unit will be asking in this special progtamme as they capture the action and the atmosphere on Day One of a new era in the City. Producer MARTIN CRASS A Money Box special
