Harry Carpenter recalls the rise of boxing's new hero. The Clones Cyclone - World Champion
Barry McGuigan wears the dove of peace on his shorts, but there's nothing peaceful about the way he fights.
In 1985 he went from being Britain's most promising boxer to World Champion. Early in the year he had his most searching examination ever when he took on JUAN LAPORTE in Belfast. It was a test he had to pass and he did. The McGuigan camp then threw down the challenge to EUSEBIO PEDROZA, world featherweight champion. London's Loftus Road was chosen as the venue and 25,000 fanatical Irishmen made the trip to see their man.

This cinematic landmark charts the passionate love story of Rhett Butler and Southern belle, Scarlett O'Hara, set against the bloodshed and turmoil of the American Civil War and its aftermath. Its vivid depiction of the war set a standard seldom equalled on screen. Based on MARGARET MITCHELL 'S epic novel, the film made Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh into legends for their stunning portrayal of one of the cinema's great romances.

Locked away in the Television Theatre, Terry asks a few friends to come along to the aid of the party: 'New Year's Eve, and some 150 editions of Wogan have dispersed into the ether and are, even as we speak, mingling with the stars high up in the heavens. There were those who said it wouldn't last; well,.we've shown them, my mother and I, we're still there, grimly hanging on. Of course, New Year's Eve is a dreadful time to do a live TV show, because I can't be at home watching Andy Stewart retiring once more, but there we are - that's showbiz.'
