This service was started five years ago and is attended by the Lord Mayor, the members of the Corporation, and representatives of other public bodies. The invited preacher this year, Doctor Martin Lloyd-Jones , was formerly a distinguished medical man; he gave up his career in order to become a Calvinistic Methodist minister and was ordained at his present church at Sandfields, Port Talbot.

GEORGE HALL , M.P.
George Hall has been Labour M.P. for the Aberdare Division of Merthyr Tydfil since 1922. He began work at a colliery at the age of twelve and continued to work as a collier until he was appointed a checkweigher in 1911. He has been a member of the Mountain Ash Council and Education Committee for eighteen years and is a governor of Cardiff University.
