Read by Denis Johnston
Tonight's extract from ' The Irish R.M. and his Experiences ' describes Philippa's first encounter with a formidable local character, Mrs. Knox, of Aussolas. Under the influence of a sunset and a seductive band, Philippa had been persuaded to desert the English shires in order to become the wife of Major Sinclair Yeates, an R.M. who described himself as short-sighted, one of two qualities which made for tolera tion. Listeners will learn how Mrs. Knox interrupted family prayers to go fox hunting and hear about the part Philippa took in the adventure.
