Joseph Engleman is a self-taught composer. He was the viola player in the original City of Birmingham Orchestra. His works include a number of orchestral suites and a ballet which was performed at a special concert, conducted by Dr. Boult some years ago. His father was the trombonist at the old Grand Theatre, Birmingham, and his son, Harry, is a professional pianist who has broadcast frequently in the Midland programmes.
