TRIO
Trio in D, Op. 27
1 Allegro con brio. 2 Larghetto maestoso. 3 Allegro energico non presto
Donald Francis Tovey , pianist, composer, conductor, and Reid Professor of Music in Edinburgh University, was born at Eton in 1875. From his early years he displayed remarkable musical gifts. At the age of nineteen he was elected Lewis Nettleship scholar at Balliol College, Oxford, and four years later graduated in classical honours.
Tovey's scholarship is immense, and on the music of Bach and Beethoven he is undoubtedly the foremost English authority. Although his compositions reflect his classical learning and bias and show no inclination to follow the trend of twentieth-century musical thought, they are full of strong individuality.

: 'COUNTRY PLEASURES'

' Robinson-Crusoeing '
Elizabeth Macpherson
Elizabeth Macpherson , by now quite well known to listeners for her talks on Highland life, comes again to the microphone today with another broadcast from her home in the hills.
To live in a Scottish glen far from the nearest town, often snow-bound for weeks on end, and with little social life, may not be some people's idea of a pleasant existence, but Mrs. Macpherson "finds delight in every mood of the mountains, and in the sheep, deer, and wild birds which are her neighbours among them. She is interested in the most trivial of everyday happenings and finds humour in the dullest of domestic disasters. She will talk today about the things she loves best in her Highland home, the scent of bracken, mist blowing down the screes, chaff with a passing stranger, laundering in the burn, peat-cutting, sun on the summits, and the white wastes of snow, that make of home a comfort and security indeed.

About this project

This site contains the BBC listings information which the BBC printed in Radio Times between 1923 and 2009. You can search the site for BBC programmes, people, dates and Radio Times editions.

We hope it helps you find information about that long forgotten BBC programme, research a particular person or browse your own involvement with the BBC.

Through the listings, you will also be able to use the Genome search function to find thousands of radio and TV programmes that are already available to view or listen to on the BBC website.

There are more than 5 million programme listings in Genome. This is a historical record of the planned output and the BBC services of any given time. It should be viewed in this context and with the understanding that it reflects the attitudes and standards of its time - not those of today.

Welcome to BBC Genome

Genome is a digitised version of the Radio Times from 1923 to 2009 and is made available for internal research purposes only. You will need to obtain the relevant third party permissions for any use, including use in programmes, online etc.

This internal version of Genome, which includes all the magazine covers, images and articles as well as the programme listings from the Radio Times, is different to the version of BBC Genome that is available externally/to the public. It is only available inside the BBC network.

Your use of this version of Genome is covered by the BBC Acceptable Use of Information Systems Policy and these terms.
