In Gounod's opera Romeo and Juliet the ballet takes the form of an open-air fete in the garden of Capulet's house at Verona... The garden is gaily thronged with guests, and at first pedlars move about among them with jewels for sale. The first dance is, accordingly, a ' Jewel Dance'. Then villagers appear from the surrounding country with garlands and baskets of flowers, the next number of the ballet is a ' Flower Waltz '. It is followed by a number for two solo dancers, a country bride and bridegroom. Another solo dance comes next
'Dance of the Veiled Maiden '-and the ballet comes to a boisterous end with a ' Gypsy Dance '.
Chaykovsky began the writing of his third orchestral suite at the end of April, 1884. During this time he was keeping a diary in which he noted from day to day the development of his work. It appears to have cost him a considerable amount of trouble, and many times he was dissatisfied with the progress he was making. It was completed at the beginning of July and first performed some time later at St. Petersburg under Hans von Bulow. The Theme and Variations form the last movement of the Suite.

Conducted by Clifton Helliwell Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 1 in C minor was written when the composer was only fifteen years of age. On its first performance a critic said that it 'has at once obtained for him a reception and reared a name more than sufficient to gratify that proud ambition and that devoted ardour which have led him to cultivate the science with singular success '. Among the four movements ' so excellent in all the qualities of graceful, soothing, sweet, airy, and fanciful melody, sustained with an unfailing energy throughout, it may almost be thought superfluous to give a preference '. The C minor Symphony was the first of Mendelssohn's works to be performed in London. When he came here four years later, he made, however, one important alteration and that was to substitute a scherzo for the original minuet. This scherzo he selected from the String Octet and orchestrated it.
Here is another of the interviews between a barrister and his client which were a popular feature in the programmes a year ago.
A business man, in answering a confidential trade enquiry concerning another business firm, makes a statement in all good faith which is untrue in fact. The letter is addressed to the person who made the enquiry, but owing to a clerk's error, it is inadvertently put into the wrong envelope and sent to another*firm who are in no way concerned with the matter. The letter is passed on to those concerning whose commercial reputation it was written. They threaten the writer of the letter. with an action for libel. What is the legal position ?
