BACH, ON A VISIT to the court of Frederick the Great, was given a theme by the King and asked to improvise upon it. This Bach did with astonishing brilliance; and the King's expression of admirat;on moved the composer to write his improvisation down, to have it engraved and to send a copy to the King as a gesture of homage. Hence the name, Musical Offering ', of which the section now to be played is the final fugue.

This internal version of Genome, which includes all the magazine covers,
images and articles as well as the programme listings from the Radio
Times, is different to the version of BBC Genome that is available
externally/to the public. It is only available inside the BBC network.
