Orchestra tonight's concert celebrates the 80th birthday of Kurt Masur - who is principal conductor of both orchestras. The combined Anglo-French forces start their concert with Tchaikovsky's lyrically flowing Serenade for Strings and end it with Bruckner's Seventh Symphony, one of the masterworks of the Austro-German symphonic repertoire.
