: Composer of the Week: Felix Mendelssohn

5/5. The Eclipse of Music. Mendelssohn died in 1847, only a few months after his beloved sister Fanny. The British journal The Musical World described Mendelssohn's death as "the eclipse of music", yet the posthumous attitude to his music has often been derogatory.
