2/5. The 1680s. Charpentier became firmly established as a composer in the French theatre, and when the opportunity arose he sought an appointment at the court of Louis XIV. Although a sudden illness deprived him of that position it didn't stop him from writing music for the funeral services following the death of the Infanta of Spain and Queen of France, Maria Theresa.
