: Composer of the Week:Aram Khachaturian

(1903-78). 1: Armenia. Born 100 years ago this week, Khachaturian is best known for such pieces as the Sabre Dance from the ballet Gayaneh or the soulful
Adagio from Spartacus. Often drawing on his Armenian roots, he wrote much else besides: this week's programmes include excerpts from his symphonies, concertos, and instrumental solos, and from his extensive film and ballet music.
