Okko Kamu conducts Aulis Sallinen's keenly anticipated sixth opera, King Lear, recorded at its world premiere at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki fast September. Sallinen describes the original Shakespeare play-which he himself has adapted from a Finnish translation by the radical poet Matti Rossi - as "a powerful mixture of hubris and its consequences - greed and cruelty on the one hand, and nobility and self-sacrifice on the other."
