Maometto Secondo
The third of four programmes marking Rossini's bicentenary with operas he wrote for Naples between 1816 and 1820. Possibly his most daring and ambitious opera in musical terms,
Maometto II is a story of love versus duty set against the exotic 15thcentury background of a Turkish-Venetian war.
