Intended for London's
King's Theatre but foiled by Intrigues, draws on a fuller version of the classical myth than either Monteverdi or Gluck.
Euridice flees home rather than marry Arideus, she is twice freed by Orpheus, he is poisoned by the Bacchantes, who are themselves destroyed in a spectacular storm.
