Kenneth Clark 's autobiography has as its subtitle A Self-Portrait. In its pages he writes frankly and disarmingly about himself and his friends. In the first of a series of instalments from the recently published second volume, The Other Half, Lord Clark recounts among other things how the National Gallery collection was found a safe hiding-place during the Second World War.
