Two talks by Mark Girouard
1: The Code of Victorian Chivalry In 1839 the Earl of Eglinton gave a tournament at his castle in Scotland. Fourteen knights in armour, the cream of Victorian youth, rode out from the castle to the lists; but this, Mark Girouard suggests, was merely the spectacu-lar outward expression of deeply-held feelings within Victorian society - the other side of the materialist coin.
