Britten Suite on English Folk Tunes: ' A time there was,' Op 90 (first performance) Berlioz Nuits d'etg
The new Britten suite started life as a specially-commissioned work (Hankin Booby) based on English folk tunes for the opening of the Queen Elizabeth Hall in 1967. The composer completely re-drafted the work into five movements last autumn. The title comes from a Hardy poem ' A Time there was,' which ends ... ' when all went well.'
