Milhaud's Suite of Dances entitled ' Saudades do Brazil' (the literal translation is ' Longing for Brazil ') was originally composed for piano solo, and later orchestrated by the composer. The titles appended to each dance are for the most part the names of localities in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro, where Milhaud went in 1917 as Secretary to Paul Claudel, then French Ambassador to Brazil. The dances are without exception written in two-four time, in characteristic tango rhythm, and are remarkable for the acid quality of the harmonies and a certain harshness arising from the poly-tonal nature of the writing-a favourite device of the composer's and nowhere more strikingly exemplified than in the present Suite. The melodies are, however, not without a certain haunting charm.
Saudades do Brazil (Longing for Brazil) 1 Overture. 2 Sorocaba. 3 Botofago. 4 Leme. 5 Copocabana. 6 Ipanema. 7 Gavea. 8 Corcovado. 9 Tijua. 10 Sumare. 11 Paineras. 12 Larenjeiras. 13 Paysandu - Milhaud
Some Questions to be Answered
Mrs. Emelie Waller
The domestic service problem has for some time been growing more acute, but only recently have there been signs that it is attracting the public attention which, as a serious national question, it deserves (as the interest in a recent broadcast in the ' Boomerangs ' series indicated). The aim of this new series of weekly talks is to give the whole subject a thorough airing from as many representative points of view as possible, and to suggest some measures to improve the present situation.
Mrs. Emelie Waller will open the series by reviewing some of the questions that the public is asking

Georg Schneevoigt was born in Finland in 1872, and studied at various musical centres, including Helsingfors, Leipzig, Brussels, and Vienna. Like Toscanini and Barbirolli, he began his professional career as a cellist, being principal of the Helsingfors Philharmonic Orchestra. He was also a professor at the Conservatoire in that city. Eventually he gave up the cello and devoted himself entirely to conducting, succeeding Kajanus as conductor of the National Philharmonic
Orchestra. He also succeeded Weingartner at the Munich opera. For ten years he was chief conductor of the Concert Society in Stockholm, and in 1918 he founded the Philharmonic Orchestra in Christiania
(Oslo). Other important engagements include Musical Director of Diisseldorf, and conductor of the Los Angeles Orchestra.

Listeners are to have the rare treat of hearing a new story by A. J. Alan. On being asked for information about it, this popular broadcaster, who remains as elusive as ever, adapted Lewis Carroll 's parody of ' Hiawatha ' :
A. J. Alan , when we asked him, Didn't seem to hear the question, Coughed and said it didn't matter, Bit his lips and changed the subject,
Then departed A. J. Alan.
A. 7. Alan will broadcast this story again on Friday in the Regional programme at 8.0.
