' The Arts '-I
EDITH EVANS
Today Sixth Forms are to have the treat and the privilege of hearing a talk on the art of acting by one of its greatest living exponents. Edith Evans attracted attention by her first appearance on any stage as Cressida in Troilus and Crcssida, and she is still attracting attention by her performance at the New Theatre of the Nurse in Romeo and Juliet. Few actresses can be more familiar with Shakespeare. She toured with Ellen Terry , playing Mistress Ford in the basket scene from The Merry Wives of Windsor, and ten years ago played a round of leading parts at the Old Vie. She created the parts of the Serpent and the She-Ancient in Shaw's Back to Methusaleh and that of Orinthia in The Apple Cart. Her performances of Millamant in The Way of the World and of Florence Nightingale in The Lady with a Lamp were praised by all the critics. Many listeners in Sixth Forms will remember her broadcast of Cleopatra to Godfrey Tearle 's Antony two years ago.

C. H. MIDDLETON
Is there any more popular flower than the sweet-pea ? The large garden, the small garden, the allotment garden-each has its row or rows of a flower that has both colour and perfume, that is supreme on the exhibition table, and unrivalled for cutting and garden decoration.
This evening C. H. Middleton is to bring to the microphone E. R. Janes , who is celebrated for his exhibition of flowers and vegetables at the leading shows for a world-famous seed firm ; his collections of sweet-peas are famous. He will give valuable advice on their cultivation.
