An appeal on behalf of THE ROYAL NATIONAL LIFEBOAT INSTITUTION, by Major-General the Rt. Hon. the Lord
MOTTISTONE, C.B., C.M.G.
THE ROYAL NATIONAL LIFEBOAT INSTITUTION celebrated its 110th birthday just a week ago, on March 4.
The Institution maintains the lifeboat service round the 5,000 miles coasts of Great Britain and Ireland. It is the oldest . lifeboat service in the world; it has a record of over 63,500 lives rescued from shipwreck-eleven lives saved every week for 100 years.
Its appeal to the British people is very modest. It needs each year 250,000. That is little more than one penny per head of our population, so that however small the sum which you are able to give, you can feel that you are doing your share.
Lord Mottistone (formerly Major-
General Seely) himself is the coxswain of the lifeboat at Brooke, Isle of Wight, and has been a lifeboatman for nearly forty years.
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and should be addressed to Major-General the Rt. Hon. the Lord Mottistone, C.B., C.M.G., The Royal National Lifeboat Institution, [address removed]
