Dunblane Cathedral celebrates this year the 700th anniversary of the coming of St. Clement, who built the Cathedral. On his arrival in Dunblane in 1233, he found a church only partly built, although the bishopric was founded about 1150 by David 1. Clement received from the Pope the right of quarter-tithes from the parishes in the diocese, and with these he built and endowed the Cathedral and appointed a dean and canons before he died in 1258. The Cathedral enshrines much mediaeval and modern carving, illuminated vellums, stained-glass windows, and an organ which is one of the finest in Scotland. The architecture of the building is pure early English pointed. A Society of Friends of Dunblane Cathedral was instituted in 1930. The membership fee is 5s. per annum, or five guineas for Life Membership, and those who desire to join should communicate with the Reverend J. Hutehison Coekburn , B.D., The Cathedral Manse, Dunblane.
