: ESCAPE

A new series of plays, each of which tells the story of an escape
Cold Storage by Leslie Darbon with Harry Towb and Derek Nimmo
Both the Cops and the Robbers alike fall foul of Kelly, the world's worst nightwatchman. And the clock ticks its way towards an icy death.
The Cops: and in the middle:
Music played by ALFIE KAHN
Produced by LESLIE MEGAHEY
(Derek Nimmo is in ' Charlie Girl ' at the Adelphi Theatre, London)

Escape
THESE plays are a departure from the usual radio drama series, in that it is the subject of each play which provides the common factor, and not the central characters. The eight authors who have contributed to the anthology were simply asked for a play which tells the story of an escape from a ' tight spot.' The result is a collection which, whether set in the air, on the sea, or underground, present a wide variety of unusual predicaments. For example, one ' hero' is trapped in a suit of armour, another in a space capsule, and another in a station waiting-room.
As the title suggests, in each play an escape can be expected. But, whether writing drama, comedy, or farce, each author has added his own unexpected twist. The escape may be lucky, or ingenious, or even due to forces for which there is no simple explanation at all. It may simply prove that one man's refuge is another man's prison-because it is the effect of the escape on the characters that really counts. While each play stands on its own the changes are well and truly rung.

About this project

This site contains the BBC listings information which the BBC printed in Radio Times between 1923 and 2009. You can search the site for BBC programmes, people, dates and Radio Times editions.

We hope it helps you find information about that long forgotten BBC programme, research a particular person or browse your own involvement with the BBC.

Through the listings, you will also be able to use the Genome search function to find thousands of radio and TV programmes that are already available to view or listen to on the BBC website.

There are more than 5 million programme listings in Genome. This is a historical record of the planned output and the BBC services of any given time. It should be viewed in this context and with the understanding that it reflects the attitudes and standards of its time - not those of today.

Welcome to BBC Genome

Genome is a digitised version of the Radio Times from 1923 to 2009 and is made available for internal research purposes only. You will need to obtain the relevant third party permissions for any use, including use in programmes, online etc.

This internal version of Genome, which includes all the magazine covers, images and articles as well as the programme listings from the Radio Times, is different to the version of BBC Genome that is available externally/to the public. It is only available inside the BBC network.

Your use of this version of Genome is covered by the BBC Acceptable Use of Information Systems Policy and these terms.
