New series 1/7. A celebration of the music genre, with a look at how this particular style emerged, grew and was embraced by a new generation in the 1960s and how it has developed over the years.
The Birth of Rock. It's 1966 and young US guitarist Jimi Hendrix arrives in Britain to find a music scene on the brink of change. Artists like the Beatles and the Who were all eager to move in new directions, but Hendrix had the pedigree and vision to ignite the revolution. The Delta bluesman and Dylanesque poet delivered songs with attitude and a harder edge, becoming the first, ultimately doomed, rock icon. Narrated by Julian Rhind-Tutt .
