Classical musician Alfred Brendel is an artist whose main work, interpreting scores written for the piano, is illuminated by other aspects of his life, including his love of painting, literature, theatre and philosophy. For the past two years a film crew has been allowed to follow him and the result is combined with archive footage in this portrait of the pianist as he approaches his 70th birthday.
