Series in which Jeremy Clarkson propounds his personal views on the best stories from recent automotive history. The New Romantics. Clarkson traces the history of the hot-hatchbacks of the eighties, from the rivalry between the Golf GTI - a model regarded by Clarkson as car of the century- and the Ford XR3, to what he sees as less credible examples of the genre, including the Nissan Sunny, the Toyota Corolla and, especially, the MG Maestro.
Finally, at the end of the eighties, along came the ultimate hot-hatch, the Escort Cosworth, which Clarkson takes out for a spin on one of his favourite stretches of road.
