Memorable triumphs at Trent Bridge and Headingley overturned a 1-0 deficit to defeat Hansie Cronje's mighty South African team.
Last time Stewart led England against Sri Lanka in a Test match - five years ago - England were beaten by five wickets. Only two members of that England side are still regulars - Stewart and Michael Atherton - where as the core of the Sri Lankan side remain.
