Vampires, Devilbirds and Spirits - Tales of the Calypso Isles
The twin Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago are celebrated for carnival, calypso and their fertile tradition of folklore. They are also distinguished for the richness of their wildlife - the fact that they were once part of the South American mainland gives their natural history a diversity unique among the islands.
Tonight's film includes unique infra-red footage of the elusive cave-dwellingoilbirds, and visits locations that required mules and donkeys to transport the camera equipment.
Folklore and animals come together in the bewitching tales of Trinidad's "master story-teller" Paul Keens-Douglas , whose legends also are brought to life in the film.
