The John Player League Essex v Yorkshire
Essex made a tremendous start this season in the County Championship, leading the table for several weeks. Yorkshire, under the influence of Ray Ulingworth and John Hampshire , have fared better this year in their one-day cricket than ever before and both must have an excellent chance of being amongst the prize-winners in September.

The Last Tasmanian
Narrated by LEO MCKERN
The Tasmanian Aborigines were totally exterminated last century. It is the only case on record of a genocide so complete and so swift. The British colonists in Tasmania wiped out the whole race within the lifetime of Truganini, who was the last to die in 1876. This programme follows the painstaking search of archaeologist
Dr Rhys Jones to uncover the full story.
The Tasmanians were a different people from the Aborigines m mainland Australia. During 12,000 years of isolation from Australia and the rest of the world Tasmanians went' into reverse , reducing their technology to become the simplest society ever known.
By the time the British arrived, they could not even make fire.
The genocide progressed through bestial atrocities committed by escaping convicts, into full-scale military operations. Even after death the Tasmanians's bodies were stolen from the grave and mutilated.
Rare achievement. (TIME OUT) A horrifying chronicle of greed, cruelty and ignorance. (PHILIP PURSER) The effect was stunning. (NEW SCIENTIST) Superb documentary. (THE AUSTRALIAN) Producer TOM HAYDON Editor BRUCE NORMAN
