The first in a season of films featuring the new cinema of Latin America starring Nelson Villagra Shenda Roman Luis Melo
Jose des Carmen Valenzuela Torres, an unemployed illiterate peasant from Najueltoro in southern Chile, murders a widow and her five small children, apparently without motive. Tried and condemned to death, he learns the rudiments of reading and writing in the weeks before his execution and this new knowledge leads him to a deeper consciousness of himself and his condition.
