Arthur Boone, a private detective, is found shot dead and a direct link is established between him, Hedges, and Cheviot. The police now suspect Cheviot of killing both Hedges and Boone. Ryder continues to look for some other suspect. Denzel sends for Ryder and tries to bribe him to give up his search. Ryder throws the money in his face. Ryder decides to break into Boone's office to try to find some clue the police might have missed. As he is leaving the office, four of Denzel's thugs are waiting for him.
