Jeanne Heal, with the co-operation of the National Institute for the Deaf, examines different ways of communicating with the deaf, including the use of mechanical aids, and gives an explanation of lip-reading and sign language.
Joe Hatton, of St. Helens, deaf and blind since the age of four, shows what careful training can do, even for people handicapped like himself.
