Like many 19-year-olds, Elliott Conroy frets about who he is. Is he cool? Do girls think he's hot? Is he a geek for studying A-level chemistry? Is he just depressingly ordinary? But this teenage identity crisis becomes something major when he's told first that his mother has Parkinson's disease and then that his father isn't his biological parent after all. It's a lot for the youngster to take on board and it's not helped by his dad Tony refusing to talk to him about it. While he tries to come to terms with all this, an old friend of his mum starts hanging around and hinting he knows something about the identity of Elliott's real father. Nicholas Shaw is excellent as the confused teen who evolves into a self-assured, self-aware young man, and the dialogue strikes exactly the right note. It's a shame this compelling daytime drama may not get the audience it deserves. (Jane Rackham)
