DOCUMENTARY OF THE WEEK
On 19 December 1981, the Union Star was on her maiden voyage from Holland to Ireland when her engines failed just off the coast of Cornwall. In hurricane winds and 60-foot waves, the Penlee lifeboat. Solomon Browne, crewed by volunteers, was called out to rescue those on board. No-one survived. Twenty-five years on, the events of that tragic night are retold using the actual radio calls and testimony from eyewitnesses and family members - many of whom speak out for the first time.
