Wildlife on One
8.30pm BBC1. As the runaway success of the meerkats proved, there's nothing more endearing than an animal that stands up on its hind legs and hangs about in gangs. Set to topple the meerkats on the cheeky-chappy charts are Africa's banded mongooses, the subject of the first in this new series.
No bigger than a ferret, the banded mongoose makes up in personality what it lacks in size. A highly sociable animal, it roams around in packs in order to hunt and protect the young.
Here we see them indulging in a symbiotic relationship with warthogs, fending off predators and resisting a siege by a rival pack that would put the Alamo to shame.
