Extended highlights of the overnight action from Atlanta, where five athletics titles were at stake: the men's pole vault, 3,000m steeplechase, women's 10,000m, women's longjump and women's shot put.
Britain's relay teams were hopingto progress through the qualifying rounds of the 4 x 100m, with Linford Christie expected to anchorthe men's team, and the 4 x 400m. Medals were decided in men's hockey, tennis, diving, baseball, yachting and wrestling, and there was semi-final action in boxing and volleyball.

Boardman will be hoping to match the form that won him gold in Barcelona in the individual pursuit, an event in which Obree took part this time around. Commentary by Hugh Porter.
There are also six gold medals to be decided in canoeing and one in dressage. Plus, there's semi-final action in rhythmic gymnastics.
