: Only Fools and Horses

Del and Rodney Trotter return for what could be their last appearance for some time, according to writer John Sullivan. "We finished the last series in and did a Christmas special last year," says Sullivan, "and I could happily write a new series right now. I'm always happy in the world of the Nag's Head." Plans for a 1993 series were put on hold when David Jason signed to Yorkshire Television for Touch of Frost (starting in January). "The earliest we could do it now would be 1995." But as compensation we at least have this special, feature-length episode. His enthusiasm for fatherhood and domesticity having palled, Del is determined to escape from the pipe-and-slippers atmosphere of Nelson Mandela House and put in some serious drinking time. But will Raquel let him? It's left to Rodney - suffering his own problems with Cassandra's insistence that they start a family - to try and talk sense into his brother.

The annual show by the country's greatest-ever double act became as essential a part of the season's viewing as the Queen's Christmas Message, and this is a vintage edition from 1977. The celebrities eager for ritual humiliation at the hands of Eric and Ernie include Penelope Keith. She agrees to appear in one of Ern's plays, but only if she can make a glamorous, musical entrance down a staircase.
Singer Elton John arrives to perform on the show, but never quite makes it to the stage. Actors Francis Matthews and Angharad Rees perform in a couple of mini-dramas. Plus singer Stella Starr, and a host of guest celebrities.

About this project

This site contains the BBC listings information which the BBC printed in Radio Times between 1923 and 2009. You can search the site for BBC programmes, people, dates and Radio Times editions.

We hope it helps you find information about that long forgotten BBC programme, research a particular person or browse your own involvement with the BBC.

Through the listings, you will also be able to use the Genome search function to find thousands of radio and TV programmes that are already available to view or listen to on the BBC website.

There are more than 5 million programme listings in Genome. This is a historical record of the planned output and the BBC services of any given time. It should be viewed in this context and with the understanding that it reflects the attitudes and standards of its time - not those of today.

Welcome to BBC Genome

Genome is a digitised version of the Radio Times from 1923 to 2009 and is made available for internal research purposes only. You will need to obtain the relevant third party permissions for any use, including use in programmes, online etc.

This internal version of Genome, which includes all the magazine covers, images and articles as well as the programme listings from the Radio Times, is different to the version of BBC Genome that is available externally/to the public. It is only available inside the BBC network.

Your use of this version of Genome is covered by the BBC Acceptable Use of Information Systems Policy and these terms.
