Hart, a naive, idealistic youth from Minnesota, is a freshman at Harvard Law
School. In his first days there he discovers that the most formidable obstacle to his success in getting good grades is the brilliant but tough Professor Kingsfield.
His problems are compounded when he falls for the professor's daughter and he finds more than his grades at stake. John Houseman won an Oscar for his performance as the ruthless Kingsfield, a role he repeated in the successful television series.
