: 'Olympic' Challenge

The 1984 International Games for the Disabled
In June 1,600 athletes from 46 nations met on Long Island, New York, to compete for their own gold, silver and bronze. Teams from mainland China and from Hong Kong were there, following a one-man, fund-raising 'marathon' from Peking to Hong Kong.
While there may be no one yet who runs as fast as Seb Coe , or who throws as far as Tessa Sanderson , that may be just a matter of time. ARNIE BOLDT of Canada has high-jumped 7 feet on his one leg, and many other athletes produce recognisably excellent performances.
These games were not just about winning. In New York there was competition, and there was fellowship as well. Written and presented by Cliff Morgan

Out in the Cold Narrated by David Attenborough So you think it's cold outside! Yet many animals and plants thrive in the coldest places on earth.
As we yearn for a hint of spring, seals are swimming after food under the Arctic ice, and on the highest mountains minute algae survive in permanent snow. Some animals must produce antifreeze to stay alive on the coldest continent of all, the Antarctic - where the emperor penguin chooses to breed in the dark of the harsh polar winter. vFilm editor LAURIE JONES Written and presented by ADRIAN WARREN

: This Office Life

adapted from his book by KEITH WATERHOUSE starring and and and
and the Albion Players
On arrival at British Albion, Mr Gryce felt that his lack of ambition would be completely fulfilled. There was a luncheon voucher scheme, a pension fund, paid holidays - and (apparently) nothing much doing between the hours of nine to five.
Then his colleagues began to take an unhealthy interest in him. They asked questions he couldn't answer, and answered questions he hadn't asked. Only the lovely Pam made life bearable, but even she was not quite what she seemed....

: Songs of Praise

A traditional part of the Christmas story is the flight to Egypt: Joseph, Mary and Jesus forced to flee from
Herod to safety in a strange land. In tonight's Songs of Praise Sally Magnusson meets some contemporary Christians who have been forced to escape from persecution. Zika Prvulovich , an Orthodox Christian from Serbia, tells of his astonishing overland journey across the Alps to freedom; the exiled Bishop in Iran,
Hassan Dehqani-Tafti , recalls the attempts made on his life and Ronnie Moodley , a South African, shows Sally something of his work of caring for an exiled community. They share their traditional Christmas hymns and songs in St Paul's Church, Birmingham, which for many years has been a meeting-place for Polish
Lutherans in this country. Research DIANE REID

: The Touch

'Why should they pity me?
I'm a normal person, I live a normal life, so they've got no cause to feel sorry for me. It makes me mad.' Julia Gates is 22 years old, a keen horsewoman and both deaf and blind. In conversation with Julia and other deaf/blind people John Lee discovers that their world of silence and darkness is illuminated by resources of personality, opinion and vivid imagination. About this project

This site contains the BBC listings information which the BBC printed in Radio Times between 1923 and 2009. You can search the site for BBC programmes, people, dates and Radio Times editions.

We hope it helps you find information about that long forgotten BBC programme, research a particular person or browse your own involvement with the BBC.

Through the listings, you will also be able to use the Genome search function to find thousands of radio and TV programmes that are already available to view or listen to on the BBC website.

There are more than 5 million programme listings in Genome. This is a historical record of the planned output and the BBC services of any given time. It should be viewed in this context and with the understanding that it reflects the attitudes and standards of its time - not those of today.

Welcome to BBC Genome

Genome is a digitised version of the Radio Times from 1923 to 2009 and is made available for internal research purposes only. You will need to obtain the relevant third party permissions for any use, including use in programmes, online etc.

This internal version of Genome, which includes all the magazine covers, images and articles as well as the programme listings from the Radio Times, is different to the version of BBC Genome that is available externally/to the public. It is only available inside the BBC network.

Your use of this version of Genome is covered by the BBC Acceptable Use of Information Systems Policy and these terms.
