With Simon Groom , Sarah Greene and Peter Duncan Prince's Progress
Goldie's puppy, Prince, spent his first night under canvas when he went to camp with the First Glen Hill Guide Company last month. All excellent experience for a trainee guide dog puppy who has to learn to ' be prepared' if he's to pass his tests and qualify as a pair of eyes for the blind. There'll be progress reports on his brothers, Buster, Sandy and Henry too, who are also being puppy walked.
If you have the time and the patience to train a puppy for the Association, and you live within 40 miles of Bolton, Exeter, Forfar, Leamington Spa or Wokingham, write to Derek Freeman , the Guide Dogs for the Blind Puppy Walking Manager, at the following address: Tollgate House, Ban-bury Road, Bishops Tachbrook , Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.

: Behind the Scenes with....

Vladimir Ashkenazy
VLADIMIR ASHKENAZY has been one of the world's most eminent pianists for over 20 years, and has also developed a successful career as a conductor. Tonight's programme goes behind the scenes at an Ashkenazy rehearsal session with the PHILHARMONIA ORCHESTRA, leader CHRISTOPHER WARREN-GREEN , to see how he combines both roles, directing concertos from the keyboard and perfecting the many details of a finished performance. Apart from music by Mozart, we eavesdrop on a genuine experiment : concertos by Beethoven and Brahms that Ashkenazy has never before attempted in this fashion. Narrator MICHAEL TUDOR BARNES

: The Defence of the United States

The second part of the major series which examines America's defence policies in the nuclear age. Introduced by David Dimbleby Call to Arms
America's nuclear arsenal is enormous, and soon to be boosted by the neutron bomb. But are her conventional forces, now all-volunteer, up to their job? Or is the American soldier the poor, dumb, purposeless GI his critics claim he is? This film assesses the strength of American conventional forces in the US, Europe and the Middle East. It looks at how NATO troops fare in ' Operation Spearpoint'the largest European training exercise in 25 years. And it shows the new Rapid Deployment Force going through its paces in the Egyptian desert - ' another bureaucratic jug. gemaut' that will cost 17 billion dollars in the next year alone.

About this project

This site contains the BBC listings information which the BBC printed in Radio Times between 1923 and 2009. You can search the site for BBC programmes, people, dates and Radio Times editions.

We hope it helps you find information about that long forgotten BBC programme, research a particular person or browse your own involvement with the BBC.

Through the listings, you will also be able to use the Genome search function to find thousands of radio and TV programmes that are already available to view or listen to on the BBC website.

There are more than 5 million programme listings in Genome. This is a historical record of the planned output and the BBC services of any given time. It should be viewed in this context and with the understanding that it reflects the attitudes and standards of its time - not those of today.

To read scans of the Radio Times magazines from the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s, you can navigate by issue.

Welcome to BBC Genome

Genome is a digitised version of the Radio Times from 1923 to 2009 and is made available for internal research purposes only. You will need to obtain the relevant third party permissions for any use, including use in programmes, online etc.

This internal version of Genome, which includes all the magazine covers, images and articles as well as the programme listings from the Radio Times, is different to the version of BBC Genome that is available externally/to the public. It is only available inside the BBC network.

Your use of this version of Genome is covered by the BBC Acceptable Use of Information Systems Policy and these terms.
